Prevalence and identification of tick species on large ruminants from district Rajanpur in Punjab Pakistan

Ticks are most prevalent vectors for the transmission of tick-borne diseases to animals (both wild and domesticated) as well humans. Due favourable subtropical conditions Pakistan, ticks abundant parasitize ruminants resulting in their morbidity mortality causing economic losses owners. In present study, a total 991 from bovines (n = 690 cattle; n 301 buffaloes) were collected during July October 2019 six sampling sites Rajanpur District report identification prevalence tick species. During current investigation, 16 species belonging 3 genera identified: Hyalomma (Hy.) anatolicum, Hy. excavatum, dromedarii, impeltatum, marginatum, impressum, scupense, rufipes, detritum, truncatum, Rhiphicephalus (Rh.) sanguineus, Rh. turanicus, annulatus, parvas, Ixodes (Ix.) pilosus I. ricinus. (85%) followed by Rhipicephalus (10%) (4%) on enrolled animals. Tick varied between (P 0.007). infestation was significantly higher < 0.001) cattle (70%) than buffaloes (30%). Udder preferred site 0.05) compared other predilection sites.
